🌺 GROWING GUIDE – Frangipani (Plumeria)

🌺 Frangipani (Plumeria)

Spectacular flowering and captivating fragrance, emblem of the tropics.

The frangipani is a tropical plant that is easy to grow in pots and is prized for its fragrant flowers.

☀️ Light

Full sun is essential. A minimum of 6 hours of direct sunlight per day is required. The more sun it receives, the more it will flower.

💧 Watering

Water generously during the growing season (spring-summer). Allow the soil to dry out between waterings. Stop watering completely during winter dormancy.

🌡️ Temperature

Ideal temperature: 20-30°C. Minimum temperature: 10°C. Enters dormancy below 15°C (loses its leaves). Overwinter in a cool, dry place.

🌱 Fertilization

Apply a high-phosphorus fertilizer (type 10-30-10) every 2 weeks during the growing season. Stop during dormancy.

🪴 Repotting

Repot every 2-3 years in spring. Use very well-draining potting soil (cactus + perlite). Frangipani prefers to be slightly root-bound.

✂️ Size

Prune in spring if necessary to control the shape. Caution: the sap is toxic and irritating.

🐛 Common problems

  • Rot: Excess water, especially during dormancy
  • Spider mites: Air too dry, spray regularly
  • No flowers: Lack of sunlight or plant too young

🌺 Blooming

Flowers in summer on mature plants (3-5 years). Fragrant flowers in white, pink, yellow or red depending on the variety.

Tropico-Québec tip: In winter, store your frangipani in a cool place (10-15°C) without watering it. It will lose its leaves, that's normal!
