⭐ GROWING GUIDE – Fig Trees

The fig tree is one of the easiest and most productive fruit trees to grow in a pot. It is robust, tolerant, and very generous.

Repotting

Repot in spring using a light, well-draining potting mix such as Promix HP. Fig trees prefer to be slightly root-bound. A pot that is too large can slow fruit production.

Light

Give it full, direct sunlight. A south-facing window or a greenhouse yields spectacular results. Outdoors, the fig tree loves the heat and produces more fruit.

Watering

Keep the soil slightly moist. Allow the top few centimeters to dry out before watering. In summer, water daily depending on the heat. In winter, water much less.

Fertilizer

The fig tree is a heavy feeder. Use a balanced fertilizer once or twice a week in summer. Reduce in autumn and stop altogether in winter.

Temperature

It tolerates heat well and can even withstand a cold rest period of around 5 to 10 °C. The fig tree is very flexible.

Flowering and fruit

The fig tree often produces fruit from its second year onwards. It can yield two harvests per season under good conditions.

Wintering

Two options: cold rest between 5 and 10 °C with leaf loss, or gentle growth at 12–18 °C with moderate watering.

Tropico-Québec Advice

Prune regularly to encourage branching and increase production. In a greenhouse, it's a productivity champion.
