🍊 GROWING GUIDE – Achacha (Garcinia humilis)

🍊 Achacha (Garcinia humilis)

A small, exotic fruit, sweet and slightly tart.

A versatile but productive tree that likes heat and humidity.

☀️ Light

Full sun to partial shade. Minimum 6 hours of direct sunlight per day for good fruit production.

💧 Watering

Keep the soil slightly moist during the growing season. Reduce watering in winter. Achacha appreciates consistent moisture but dislikes waterlogged conditions.

🌡️ Temperature

Ideal: 20-30°C. Minimum: 10°C. Protect from frost. Bring indoors as soon as temperatures drop below 12°C.

🌱 Fertilization

Apply a balanced fertilizer (10-10-10) in spring and summer, every 4-6 weeks. Choose a fertilizer specifically formulated for tropical fruit trees.

🪴 Repotting

Repot every 2-3 years in spring. Use a well-draining potting mix enriched with compost. A pot with drainage is essential.

✂️ Size

Prune lightly after fruiting to maintain a compact shape. Remove dead or weak branches.

🐛 Common problems

  • Scale insects: Treat with insecticidal soap or neem oil
  • Yellow leaves: Excess water or lack of nutrients
  • Fruit drop: Water stress or lack of light

🍊 Fruiting

Achacha can produce fruit 3-4 years after planting. The fruit is ready to harvest when it turns bright orange.

Tropico-Québec tip: Achacha adapts well to pot culture in Quebec if you provide it with warmth, humidity and abundant light during the summer.
