⭐ GROWING GUIDE – Dragon Fruits (Pitayas)

Pitayas are very decorative climbing cacti. They grow quickly and can produce fruit even in Canada.

Repotting

Use a deep, stable pot. Light potting mix: Promix HP with perlite. Ensure complete drainage. Repot in spring.

Light

Pitaya trees love full sun. Give them 6 to 12 hours of direct sunlight. A heated greenhouse will produce spectacular results.

Watering

Allow the soil to dry out several centimeters on the surface between waterings. In summer, they consume a lot of water. In winter, water very sparingly.

Fertilizer

Fertilize once a week in summer with 20-20-20 or a potassium-rich fertilizer. Do not fertilize in winter.

Temperature

They like the heat. The ideal temperature is 22 to 35 °C.

Structure

Provide them with a sturdy support. They need to climb in order to flower.

Bloom

The pitaya flowers at night, then produces its fruit in summer. Some varieties need to be hand-pollinated.

Wintering

Keep them in a cool, warm, and bright location, with minimal watering.
