⭐ GROWING GUIDE – Litchis and Longans

Lychees and longans are refined tropical fruit trees. They like light, ambient humidity and stable warmth.

Repotting

Use a light, well-draining potting mix such as Promix HP with perlite. Medium-sized pots are better than very large ones. Repot only in spring and ensure the pot never retains water.

Light

They prefer strong but slightly filtered light. Gentle, direct sunlight is fine, but avoid harsh sunlight. A southeast-facing window or a bright greenhouse works very well.

Watering

Keep the soil slightly moist. Allow the top two or three centimeters to dry out before watering. Water more frequently in summer and less often in winter. Use lukewarm water.

Fertilizer

Fertilize lightly with a balanced fertilizer once a week during the summer. Actisol works well to support growth. No fertilizer is needed in winter.

Temperature

Warmth is essential. The ideal temperature is 22 to 32°C. Below 10°C, they quickly suffer. These plants do not like cold drafts.

Bloom

Flowering is possible in a heated greenhouse after the plant has reached good maturity. Longans generally thrive better in this environment than lychees.

Wintering

Keep them at 12–18 °C with good light. Reduce watering and avoid sudden temperature changes.

Tropico-Québec Advice

These plants like stability. Avoid moving them often. High humidity makes them much more vigorous. They thrive in a greenhouse.
