Alocasia 'Calidora'
Large green elephant ear, 'Calidora' quickly forms a spectacular clump of enormous, heart-shaped leaves. In a 4" (6–18") pot, it makes an excellent focal point for adding a tropical feel to a patio, greenhouse, or bright room in Canada.
- Foliage: large, bright green, veined leaves with a very architectural shape.
- Growth habit & size: vigorous plant that can reach 120–180 cm in a pot with good conditions.
- Use: large decorative pot, hothouse, indoor jungle corner.
- Special features: rapid growth in summer with heat, humidity and regular watering.
- Format received: young rooted plant in a 4" pot (15–45 cm / 6–18").
Care sheet – Culture in Canada
- Light: bright light in partial shade; avoid direct, scorching sunlight through a window, especially during the hottest hours.
- Watering: keep the soil slightly moist, allowing the top to dry out a little between waterings; do not leave stagnant water in the cachepot.
- Substrate: rich but well-draining potting soil, ideally with perlite or bark to prevent compaction.
- Temperature: ideal between 18 and 30 °C; go inside before the temperature drops below 12 °C.
- Humidity: likes high ambient humidity (>50%): greenhouse, bright bathroom or humidity tray.
- Fertilizer: fertilize lightly every 2–3 weeks in spring and summer; stop in winter.
- Summer outdoor cultivation: possible in pots or directly in the garden (rich and moist soil), provided that the rhizomes or the pot are brought inside before the frost.
