🍌 Musa 'FHIA-01 Goldfinger' Banana Plant – Hardy, productive, "apple" flavor
10" pot (24–48")
10" (24–48") pot
'FHIA-01 Goldfinger' is a recent cultivar from the FHIA breeding program (Honduras) with strong commercial potential. It is distinguished by excellent resistance to foliar diseases, high wind resistance, relative cold tolerance, and a very sturdy pseudostem. A remarkable producer, it offers delicious bananas with a flavor reminiscent of apples (a trait inherited from its parent , Musa 'Dwarf Prata' ). Versatile: it can be eaten fresh when ripe, or boiled/fried when green.
Strengths
- Exceptional resilience: wind, relative coolness and diseases (Sigatoka type).
- High yield: generous regimes in hot and sunny conditions.
- Versatile fruit: dessert when ripe, plantain-like when cooked.
- Unique flavour: fresh notes of "apple", sweet and aromatic flesh.
Quick guide
- Mature height (pots or greenhouses): ~2–3 m (6.5–10 ft) depending on pot volume.
- Light: full sun to very bright (6–8 h+).
- Ideal temperature: 20–32 °C; come indoors before any risk of frost (< 10 °C to be avoided).
- Watering: regular; allow the top of the substrate to dry slightly between waterings.
- Substrate: aerated potting soil + perlite/coco; impeccable drainage.
- Fertilizer: during active growth, rich formula (e. g., 20-8-20) every 1–2 weeks.
- Fruiting: possible in ~12–18 months with heat, light and large pot volume.
- Wind: very good resistance (robust pseudo-trunk and base).
Uses
- When ripe: sweet dessert fruit, apple aroma.
- Green: ideal boiled or fried (savory dishes).
Note: Vigor and fruit production depend on heat, light, and pot size. In cold climates, cultivation in a greenhouse or in a very bright indoor location is recommended.
