Care sheet – Culture in Canada

  • Light: full sun, gentle to partial sun; gradually acclimate to direct sunlight outdoors.
  • Watering: This plant requires a lot of water in summer; keep the substrate fresh but well-drained, especially in pots.
  • Substrate: rich and well-draining potting soil (like potting soil for balcony planters or flowering plants, with a little compost).
  • Fertilizer: Fertilizer for flowering plants or tomatoes every 1–2 weeks during the growing season.
  • Temperature: gradually move outside as soon as nights remain above 10–12 °C; return inside before the cold returns.
  • Wintering: indoors in a bright location (greenhouse, cool, bright room) or in partial dormancy in a cool, frost-free location with very limited watering.
  • Pruning: Pruning is possible in spring or late winter to control height and promote branching.
  • Caution: all parts of the brugmansia are toxic if ingested; keep away from children and animals.
