Grumichama

Variety: Grumichama (Eugenia brasiliensis). Type: Potted tropical fruit tree.

• The fruit: Small round fruit, 1.2-2.5 cm, turning from green to bright red then very dark purple when ripe. Juicy pulp, sweet and slightly tangy, cherry-flavoured, with an aromatic touch. Thin skin, to eat fresh.
• Ideal if: you want a small cherry-type tropical fruit, rare in Quebec.
• Good to know: small fruit, with 1-3 seeds: a tasting fruit, not large size.
• Size & habit: small evergreen tropical tree, well suited to pot culture in Quebec.
• Relative hardiness: not hardy in Quebec; grow in a pot, always sheltered from frost.
• Size received: 1 plant in a 10" pot.
• Availability: pre-order; delivery or pickup in May-June 2027. Limited quantity.

Care sheet - Growing in Quebec

• Light: Full sun 6-8 hours per day (south window, greenhouse, or outdoors in summer after acclimatization).
• Growing medium: Very well-draining potting mix, such as Pro-Mix HP or similar, with a little perlite.
• Watering: Let the top of the mix dry between waterings; avoid letting water stand in the cachepot.
• Fertilizer: Fruit-tree fertilizer every 2-3 weeks during the growing season.
• Temperature: Bring the plant indoors before nights drop below 5 °C; never expose to frost.
• Overwintering: Very bright room, cool to temperate; reduced watering but without letting the mix dry out completely.
