Curry plant ( Murraya koenigii ), also known as the curry tree, is an aromatic plant used in many Asian cuisines. Its fresh leaves flavor curries, sauces, and stews.
- Use: aromatic plant for Indian and Sri Lankan cuisine.
- Habit: small, branching shrub that can be pruned to remain compact in a pot.
- Cultivation in Canada: only in pots indoors or in greenhouses, with the possibility of moving it to the garden in the summer.
- Harvesting: Harvest a few leaves as needed, avoiding completely defoliating the stems.
- Format received: young plant in a 4" pot.
Care sheet – Culture in Canada
- Light: very bright, gentle sun or partial sun (south/east window or greenhouse).
- Watering: keep the substrate slightly moist, without excess water; do not leave it soaking in water.
- Substrate: rich but well-draining potting soil.
- Temperature: tropical plant to be kept frost-free at all times; ideally above 15°C.
- Size & harvest: it is possible to pinch regularly to harvest the leaves while promoting branching.
