🥭 'Nam Doc Mai' Mango Tree – Premium Thai mango, sweet & floral (low fiber, ideal for pots/greenhouses)
18" (36–72") pot
'Nam Doc Mai' is a highly sought-after Thai variety prized for its ultra-sweet flavor with honey/floral (sometimes vanilla) notes, its tender flesh, and its low fiber content. It is very well suited to growing in pots and greenhouses thanks to its good tolerance to pruning and its ability to remain compact with regular pinching.
Strengths
- Premium taste: very sweet, fragrant (honey/flowers), melting flesh, low fiber.
- Perfect for greenhouses: manages well in containers with pruning/pinching, excellent candidate for cold climates.
- Self-fertile: a single plant can bear fruit (better fruit set with ventilation/pollinators).
Growing (pots or greenhouses)
- Light: full sun (6–8 h+). Supplemental lighting is useful in winter in a greenhouse.
- Temperatures: ideal 20–32 °C; avoid < 10–12 °C (very sensitive to cold).
- Container: 30–60 L (progressive); impeccable drainage (holes + drainage layer as needed).
- Substrate: very airy and well-draining (premium potting soil + perlite/pozzolana/coconut). Avoid overly heavy mixes.
- Watering: regular during growth; allow the surface to dry slightly between waterings; never waterlogged.
- Fertilizer: balanced in spring; increase K and Mg before/during flowering and fruit set.
- Size: pinching to densify; light pruning after harvest to maintain ~1.8–2.5 m in pot.
- Greenhouse: good ventilation + spacing to limit humidity on the foliage (reduces the risk of disease).
Tip: A short, slightly drier period (without severe stress) before flowering can help stimulate flower induction; afterwards, resume regular watering to support fruit set.
