🏔️ Mountain Soursop (Annona montana) – Vigorous, tolerant & exotic
10" pot (24–48")
Annona montana, known as mountain soursop, is closely related to soursop (A. muricata) but is noted for its vigor, greater tolerance to sub-optimal conditions, and ease of training in large containers/greenhouses. Fruits are green and spiny with white fibrous flesh, typically more tart/resinous than common soursop—excellent for juices, sorbets, jams and flavoring. A superb tropical collector’s plant.
Highlights
- More forgiving than common soursop (easier protected culture).
- Fast, vigorous growth; trains well in containers.
- Showy fruit: spiny rind, aromatic white flesh (best processed).
Care (container/greenhouse)
- Light: full sun (6–8+ hrs); intense light recommended in cool climates.
- Temps: best 72–90°F (22–32°C); avoid <50–54°F (10–12°C); frost free.
- Water: regular, with excellent drainage; never waterlog.
- Soil: airy, fast-draining (potting mix + perlite/pumice/coco); slightly acidic to neutral.
- Feeding: balanced during growth; higher K at bloom/fruiting.
- Training: tip-prune to branch; stake if fruit load is heavy.
- Pollination: hand pollination can markedly improve fruit set indoors.
Flavor note: less sweet than common soursop; shines in juices, sorbets, jams and syrups.
