Mulberry 'Pakistan'

Variety: Pakistan (Morus macroura). Type: Potted mulberry.

• The fruit: Very long fruit, typically 6-8.5 cm (up to 10 cm), turning from ruby red to very dark purple when ripe. Firm flesh, sweet, blackberry- and raspberry-flavoured, low acid. Harvest spread over six to seven weeks.
• Ideal if: you want a mulberry with large long fruit, to eat fresh.
• Good to know: vigorous tree in the ground: in a pot in Quebec, plan regular pruning to keep a manageable size, and overwinter sheltered from frost.

Care sheet - Growing in Quebec

• Light: Full sun 6-8 hours per day (south window, greenhouse, or outdoors in summer after acclimatization).
• Growing medium: Very well-draining potting mix, such as Pro-Mix HP or similar, with a little perlite.
• Watering: Let the top of the mix dry between waterings; avoid letting water stand in the cachepot.
• Fertilizer: Fruit-tree fertilizer every 2-3 weeks during the growing season.
• Temperature: Bring the plant indoors before nights drop below 5 °C; never expose to frost.
• Overwintering: Very bright room, cool to temperate; reduced watering but without letting the mix dry out completely.
