Strelitzia nicolai , or large bird of paradise, forms large clumps of leaves reminiscent of an ornamental banana plant. As a houseplant or greenhouse plant, it provides an impressive architectural presence.

Care sheet – Culture in Canada

• Light: very bright in full sun (south-facing window, greenhouse, terrace in summer).
• Watering: allow the surface of the substrate to dry slightly between waterings; avoid stagnant water.
• Substrate: well-draining and slightly rich potting soil.
• Temperature: protect from frost; ideal temperature between 15 and 25 °C.
• Repotting: likes to be a little cramped in its pot before flowering.
