'Shan Tong' is a popular paulownia hybrid, prized for its rapid growth, improved hardiness and ornamental or forestry potential.

• Uses: shade tree, privacy screen, fast-growing planting.
• Foliage: large decorative leaves that give a very exotic appearance.
• Growth: very vigorous in rich, well-drained soil, with a little fertilizer.

Care sheet – Culture in Canada

• Light: full sun, in the most open location possible.
• Watering: water regularly during the first year to encourage root development, then reduce watering once the tree is well established; avoid constantly waterlogged soils.
• Substrate: rich, deep and well-draining soil; in pots, use quality potting soil with a little compost.
• Fertilizer: light fertilization in spring (fertilizer for shrubs or ornamental trees) to support growth.
• Hardiness: some hybrids are more resistant to cold, but young plants must be well protected from intense frosts and drying winds.
• Pruning: It is possible to prune in early spring to shape the trunk or to encourage a bushy habit with large leaves.
