'Kampong Mauve' Sugar Apple – 10" pot
'Kampong Mauve' is a selection of sweet apple (Annona) producing attractive, bumpy fruit with mauve/purple hues. Its creamy white flesh is very sweet, fragrant, and melts in your mouth, reminiscent of a tropical dessert cream. It is an ideal collector's fruit tree for a heated greenhouse or a very bright room in Canada.
- Fruit: round fruits with bumpy skin, colored mauve/purple when ripe, very sweet and aromatic white flesh.
- Flowering: small yellow/greenish flowers, followed by fruit in warm and stable conditions.
- Habit & size: small tree or large shrub that can reach 1.5–2.5 m in a well-cultivated pot.
- Use: tropical fruit tree for collection in a warm greenhouse, conservatory or very bright jungle corner.
- Pollination: flowering is sometimes capricious; the presence of more than one plant or manual pollination can improve fruit set.
- Format received: good-sized plant in a 10" pot.
Care sheet – Culture in Canada
- Light: very bright in full sun; acclimate gradually if you take it outside in the summer.
- Watering: keep the substrate slightly moist but never soggy; allow the top to dry out between waterings.
- Substrate: rich and well-draining potting soil (quality potting soil + a little compost/perlite).
- Fertilizer: Fruit or citrus fertilizer every 3–4 weeks during the growing season.
- Temperature: strictly frost-free; ideally aim for 18–28 °C all year round.
- Overwintering: indoors or in a heated greenhouse, very bright, with slightly reduced watering in winter.
- Size: It is possible to pinch and prune lightly in spring to keep the plant compact and encourage branching.
