Variety: UF SunLime (UFR-4). Type: Potted citrus.
- Flavor & uses: Pale green to light yellow, crunchy pearls with a bright, very aromatic lemon flavor. Excellent for seafood, desserts, and cocktails.
- Ideal if: you want a very aromatic and bright citrus fruit, uncommon in garden centers.
- Good to know: variety known for its vigor and good adaptation to growing in pots in greenhouses or bright indoors.
- Habit & size: small branching fruit shrub, specially adapted to pot cultivation in Quebec.
- Relative hardiness: not hardy in Quebec; to be grown in a pot, always protected from frost.
- Format received: 1 plant on rootstock, in a 10″ pot, typical height of 24–32″ (60–80 cm).
Care sheet – Culture in Quebec
- Light: full sun 6–8 hours per day (south-facing window, greenhouse or outdoors in summer after acclimatization).
- Substrate: very well-draining potting soil, such as Pro-Mix HP or similar, with a little perlite.
- Watering: allow the top of the soil to dry out between waterings; avoid stagnant water.
- Fertilizer: apply citrus or fruit tree fertilizer every 2–3 weeks during the growing season.
- Temperature: bring the plant indoors before nighttime temperatures drop below 5°C; never expose to frost.
- Wintering: very bright room, cool to temperate; reduced but regular watering.
❓ Differences: cutting (5" pot), grafted, dwarf
- Cutting : clone on its own roots; compact format, fruiting possible quickly under good conditions.
- Grafted : scion on selected rootstock; vigor and entry into production often first or second year.
- Dwarf : naturally compact growth habit; normal sized fruit, often enters production in the first or second year.
